First half of 2014 turned out to be exceptionally good for the Suwałki Special Economic Zone - especially for grounds located in Ełk.
In the first half of the year the Zone issued 16 permits for conducting business activity (and in analogous period in 2013 – 2). Entrepreneurs had declared new investments for some PLN 602 million as well as hiring of 220 new employees and maintaining current staff of almost two thousand people (in total there are almost seven thousand people employed in the companies within the Zone). Majority of investments cover production, less commonly services.
- This is the right direction. In times when costs of work are so favourable for Poland, it is important to attract investments of production type. Such investments create stable work places – says Robert Żyliński, president of SSSE, and adds that it is not the costs of work that attract investors but attractive investment grounds and well-skilled workforce. Also the change in the public aid map is of great significance – since July 1 it is very favourable for e. g. Warmia and Mazury province.
But not only the industrial regions can talk about development, so can tourist Ełk or health resort Gołdap. In the first half of the year six entrepreneurs decided about investments in subzones operating in these two areas (first six months of 2013-2).
Ełk has an opportunity for a huge economic undertaking. It is in Ełk where the well-known producer of decorative papers plans to invest almost PLN 190 million. Ełk's printing house does not share any details of the investment yet. In Gołdap however, COMAXEL company wants to develop its activity. The company decided about producing plastic elements on the basis of an innovative pre-preg material (resin impregnated reinforcement). Expenditures related to this investment will cover PLN 1.7 million.
Suwałki Special Economic Zone is one of the 14 economic zones operating in Poland. It covers 375.6 ha in seven subzones in three provinces – e.g. Ełk and Gołdap in Warmia and Mazury.
